Mastering the Art of Dung Sampling for Equines!

Horses are equines.
Donkeys are equines.

Preserving the quality of the sample is the best way to make sure you get the most reliable result for your horse!

Step 1 - Label Correctly

Proper labelling ensures your horse gets the correct results and treatment every time!

Label the bag with the following:

  • The horse’s name/identification

  • The date of collection

  • Your name/yard name

Step 2 - Collecting a Good Quality Sample

Always collect individual samples!

  • Using a glove, spoon, or the reverse bag method, collect the sample from a freshly deposited (preferably warm) pile of dung and place it in the bag.

  • It is best to sample multiple spots from both the top and inner sections of the dung pile.

  • The final sample size should be bigger than a golf ball but smaller than a tennis ball.

Preserving the quality of the sample is the best way to make sure you get the most reliable result for your horse!

Step 3 - Keeping The Sample Fresh

  • Seal the bag while removing as much air as possible from the bag. - The eggs need air to hatch!

  • Cool the sample as soon as possible after collection by placing the sample in the FRIDGE.

  • Do not leave samples lying out, especially in the sun.

  • NEVER store samples in the FREEZER!

Step 4 - The Results

By following the steps above you have helped give your horse the right results and treatment!
